Majesty Diamond is a drag performer in Des Moines, Iowa. Drag, much like graphic design, is a career that involves marketing yourself. Majesty is a personal friend of mine. I had decided to use her to create an illustration, which was then adjusted for a composition, and finally adjusted for a poster.
This is the original composition made for Majesty Diamond. I took inspiration from the psychedelic resurgence of art nouveau in the late 60's. I also drew from the movie posters of the 70's and early 80's. The dress contains words that Majesty herself has used to describe herself: "She is a bitch, a mess & a queen."
This poster is a censored version of the original. This version also contains a different type face in the background than the original. This was to add another form of repetition.
